Yellow Crowned Night Heron

Venturing out in the early morning with coffee, to capture the sunrise at Kiawah River, the water was silent and placid. But as I honed in on the few sounds around me, I found this rare yellow crowned night Heron in the reeds, catching a small frog in his mouth. He did not seem to mind me right beside him on the dock and knew I had to paint him. Heron sightings are not uncommon in the low country, but this species has only graced my presence twice in my life, and had great significance. The painting is in oils, and it is shipped free in the US from Florida.
